Public Health Nurse II

Special Entry Salary Range: $46,454.78 - $64,038.42

The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate and manage Maternity and BCCCP programs. This position will ensure program guidelines are met and initiate changes and/or new programs in a timely manner. This position will provide assessment on maternity, family planning, sexually transmitted disease, and cancer detection. This position provides care and education according to assessment need; provide Assessments on Adult Health Clinic Patients; be a proficient user in and have a good understanding of NCEDSS, NCIR and Patagonia and also understand how they function in each program; give adult immunizations; and serve as a resource to patients and community partners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Considerable knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs.

2. Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health.

3. General knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health.

4. Considerable knowledge of available resources and organizations.

5. Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions.

6. Ability to secure the cooperation of others, to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships.

7. Ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions.

8. Ability to communicate, verbally & written, with staff, community agencies, & general population.

9. Considerable computer skills

10. Flexible & open to change to meet needs of the community

11. Ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports and medical instructions.

12. Ability to assess clients’ needs for immunizations and administration of medication.

13. Proper storage and handling of vaccines.

Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Current licensed to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing; valid N.C. driver's license
