9/11 20th Anniversary Memorial Service at Grainger Stadium

The AmVets Post 111, Lenoir County Emergency Services and Greene Lamp Community Action will host a 9/11 20th Anniversary Memorial Service on September 11, 2021 at 9:00 am at Historic Grainger Stadium.

“I believe it is very important since this is the 20th anniversary since the terrorist attack that happened on September 11, 2001, that we take the time to remember those that made the sacrifices that day as well as those who have sacrificed on our behalf since then,” said David Ricke, First Vice Commander of AmVets Post 1111 and Chairman of the Committee.

There will be guest speakers and music. The event will also honor first responders, military and veterans who serve the community.

“It has been 20 years since 9/11 has occurred and many of our children would have no memory of the events that occurred that day,” said Ricke. “This will be a perfect learning experience for them to understand what actually occurred on that day in September.”

Following the service there will be a static display of local emergency vehicles and National Guard equipment on site.

“If anyone would like to reach out and personally thank the people of our community that are there on a daily basis,” said Ricke.

The event is on a Saturday which will allow for more people to attend who would not otherwise be able to.

“The community should come out because we are taking the time to recognize our local first responders who have stepped up and made the commitments since 9/11 occurred including the firefighters, ems, law enforcement, our national guard enforcements,” said Ricke.

The memorial service will commeorate the emergency service responders as well as those that lost their lives during the terrorist attack that brought down the Twin Towers in New York City on September 11, 2001.
