Collision between train and truck closes Vernon Avenue Friday evening

Traffic in Kinston was impeded Friday evening, after a late afternoon collision between a trash truck and an east-bound train left the train blocking Vernon Avenue due to damage from the accident. 

The collision took place at the intersection of Hull Road and Vernon Avenue in Kinston. The truck turned in front of the train, and was struck. According to the Kinston Police Department, no injuries were reported either to the driver of the truck or to those on the train. 

Following the collision, the train remained immobilized, keeping Vernon Avenue closed. The front of the locomotive was damaged, preventing it from moving until repairs could be completed.
