UPDATE: Sheriff's department identifies employee in tragic pedestrian accident

Update: 12:51 pm. From Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office

On behalf of the William's Family and the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office, it is with great sadness that we share the loss of one of our own.

Records Processing Assistant Sue Williams, who was a valued member of the Sheriff's Administration Office, died this morning after being struck by a vehicle on East King Street in front of the Lenoir County Courthouse.

Sheriff Ronnie Ingram states, "Ms. Sue had been a dedicated employee of the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office since 2004. She took pride in the work that she did at the Sheriff's Office which included managing the records management system, handing domestic violence case forms, serving as our DCI supervisor and assisting citizens with reports for incidents they were involved in."

Sheriff Ingram added, "this unexpected tragedy has taken a great toll on our staff and I ask for your prayers for the Williams family and her Sheriff's Office family."

From Kinston Police Department:

On April 6, 2021, at 7:58 am, officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to the 100 block of East King Street in reference to a motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers learned a 62 year old female pedestrian was attempting to cross East King Street when she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on East King Street.

The pedestrian was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where she later died from injuries she sustained in the motor vehicle collision. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the collision and has not been charged. The Kinston Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
