NC Civil Rights Trail unveils 1951 Adkin High School walkout marker

On Saturday, November 20, 2021, a marker dedicated to the Adkin High School Walkout was unveiled at the corner of Washington Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Kinston. Kinston City Councilmember-elect Chris Suggs opened the event which included speakers Charles Jarman, Marilyn Patrick, Rita L. Joyner, Audrey Nobles, Secretary D. Reid Wilson of NC Department of Natural & Cultural Resources, and Dr. Valerie Ann Wilson, Chair of the N.C. African American Heritage Commission.
