Dr. Patrick Greene

Dr. Patrick Greene, Principal of Greene Central High School was named this year’s Greene County School’s Principal of the year. Each year Greene County Schools selects one of its principals to represent the county with the honor.

Mr. Raymond Smith, Director of Human Resources, shared with me the process of selecting the principal of the year, Mr. Smith state that “each year all the principals are asked if they would like to participate, those that do are voted on by the Central Office Directors after an interview.”

Dr. Greene a native of Pitt County,  where he began his career in teaching. He attended East Carolina University and earned four degrees from there. He has a BS in Secondary History Education, an MSA in School Administration, an Educational Specialist degree, and a Doctor of Education degree.

Dr. Greene is married with 2 daughters who are both Greene County Students. While not being a Greene County native, he has plugged himself in and is truly a part of the community.

Dr. Greene began his tenure in Greene County 10 years ago after being named the Principal of Greene Early College. He then transitioned to become the Principal of Greene Central High School.

He shared that his inspiration to becoming a principal was that “ I love being a high school principal. I get to see young adults grow and start to figure out what they want to be in life. Helping that process is incredibly rewarding.”

Dr. Greene shared that each year he sets a goal for his staff to find ways to work together better and with the community. He also said he believes that those two items have been central to the success of GCHS.

As Covid 19 has affected education in an unprecedented way, it has also changed the way principals manage their schools. Dr. Greene stated “I've always known that you can only be a good as your staff. They are the ones that do the hard work with students every day. The past year has taught us that it is even more true now than ever before. The best thing that I can do is support my teachers the most that I can and give them the resources they need to work with students.”

Dr. Greene is a proud member of the Greene County Schools team and during these difficult days he said “ I want to be a voice to celebrate the hard work that is going on in schools every day this year to get our students back on track and where they need to be.”

Dr. Grene will now interview to compete for the Southeastern Regional Principal of the year.
