Above the Briery: Fall is getting closer. The beauty berries are putting on a show, and slowly the oven that is our weather is beginning to give way to cooler temperatures. Then it will be time to plant! Trees, shrubs, and perennials appreciate the warm soils and cooler air temperatures. So whether you choose potted plants or bare-root plants, it's time to start planning your planting. For trees for shade and feeding bees, consider red maple or tulip poplar. For small trees/large shrubs, check out oakleaf hydrangea, beautyberry, spicebush, elderberry, or black haw viburnum. If you want evergreen plants – we've also got you covered with climbing hydrangea, heart-leaf ginger, and Christmas fern. For now, the only bare-root plants available are freshly dug bloodroot rhizomes.
