College for the Holidays at LCC

Each year Lenoir Community College offers College for the Holidays where certain classes are marketed toward students who attend a four-year North Carolina university, as well as those attending LCC. The five week courses run from November 23rd through December 28th.

“These are holiday transfer courses in various disciplines to assist students with completing degree requirements,” said Richy Huneycutt. “These courses are specifically targeted toward high-performing, goal-oriented students with a successful history of completing online courses.”

The goal of the classes is to help out students who may be missing a class or two to help get caught up. LCC has articulation agreements with all of the four-year North Carolina universities to ensure the credits will transfer.

“It’s a really good opportunity for our students to get that extra three to seven credits that they might need to transfer back,” said Dr. Timothy Maddox.

In contrast to a regular class, the College for the Holidays classes are condensed to allow self-motivated students the opportunity to catch up on courses needed to graduate on time.

“You are taking a 16-week course in five weeks. It’s really for the go-getters and are determined to be successful to get those credits. The students in these classes perform the best of all of our students,” said Maddox.

Classes fill up quickly, particularly the communication classes and the biology classes. Humanities classes are also popular.

“Each class is fully online and students work at their own pace but do have to finish a certain amount each week,” said Maddox.
