NCISAA announces fall sports practices to begin Aug. 10

The North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association announced start dates for fall sports, with a staggered plan to return to play. This decision affects Arendell Parrott Academy and Bethel Christian Academy.

The NCISAA has delayed the start of interscholastic competitions. The State Office, in conjunction with the Board of Advisors has established the following target dates for low (cross country, girls golf, tennis) and moderate (field hockey, soccer, volleyball) risk sports to begin the Fall Sports Season. These dates are contingent on the state of North Carolina being in Phase 3 and are subject to change.

Full practice for low and medium risk fall sports will begin on Aug. 10 if the state of North Carolina is in Phase 3, and the Fall Acclimatization Policy must be applied.

Scrimmages will be permitted starting on Aug. 24 for fall sports except for football.

Interscholastic competitions will be permitted starting on Aug. 31 for fall sports except for football.

As a high-risk sport, football games are being postponed until at least Sept. 4. The State Office will meet with football-only schools the week of July 27 to discuss alternative plans and dates.

On Aug. 3, Return-To-Play Minimum Standards will be released. These standards will include but are not limited to:

  • Health Screening

  • Sports Specific Modifications

  • Spectator Attendance

  • Locker Rooms

  • Masks

  • Social Distancing
