Rev. Wandra Williams: The Greatest Sacrifice

This week is Holy Week! Now, more than ever it is a sobering and exciting time for the church. It is the week leading up to Easter Sunday.  This is the week we take the time to reflect and remember the events leading up to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It is in this week when over 2,000 years ago an ultimate price was paid in exchange for a precious gift. The ultimate price resulted in the blood shed by our Lord, Jesus Christ. His blood wasn’t wasted blood, His blood was the precious blood of the Lamb. The blood of Jesus was shed for the sins of man, to give us an opportunity to receive the precious gift of salvation. John 3:16 (AMPC) reads “For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.” God unselfishly gave His only Son to die for the sins of man. O what a great sacrifice.

During this Holy Week as we approach Easter Sunday, you are encouraged to take the time to think about the greatest sacrifice that was made for the sins of the world. If you overserved the Lenten season, and made a 40-day sacrifice of your own, think about how those sacrifices drew you closer to God. Over the last few weeks, we’ve all made sacrifices and adjustments. Some have sacrificed and adjusted to working from home. Some have sacrificed and adjusted the normal routine and although this may have been difficult and uncomfortable, nothing compares to the greatest sacrifice ever made.

Remember, the greatest sacrifice ever made was that of Jesus. He sacrificed His life, shed His blood, so that in times of worry, despair, sickness, and weakness we could have comfort, peace, healing, and strength. Jesus. He was the greatest sacrifice.

Let us pray:

Most gracious Father, we thank you for giving us the gift of your Son. We thank you for the sacrifice made for the sins of the world. In exchange for the shed blood of Jesus, we thank you that we are able to receive the precious gift of salvation. Thank you for the gift of your Son for it is in Him, we find joy, comfort, peace, healing and strength. In Jesus Name, Amen.
