Security to be ramped up in Lenoir County Courthouse July 1

Changes to Lenoir County courthouse security will be coming soon.

According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, July 1 is when those changes will be enacted, as numerous items will be prohibited in the courthouse. Firearms, knives, vaping products, lighters and tobacco products of any kind — including e-cigars and smokeless variants — will not be permitted.

Also, pocketbooks and backpacks larger than 12 inches by 6 inches will not be allowed and there will be a measuring device at each entrance to ensure proper size. If the bag doesn’t fit into pre-measured containers, it will not be allowed in the courthouse.
