LCC's annual hair show is May 18
The 2019 Annual Hair show by Lenoir County Community College Cosmetology Program will be open to the public for $5 a ticket on May 18. Under the theme of unique bridal traditions, the talent of the LCC students will be on display in hair demonstrations and costumes.
The hair show will be an opportunity for the students to showcase their abilities. They will be participating in events, including using a mannequin with categories including haircut, hair color, up-dos and fantasy. There will be live models with 18 teams compose of three students each, with most of the teams making their own costumes by hand.
"A lot of people, when they hear ‘hair show,’ they think that if they aren't stylists they shouldn't go," Miriam Del Toro, the instructor/coordinator of Continuing Education Cosmetology, said. "It's like a Broadway show with something for everyone."
LCC is hosting the rehearsal a day before the sshow and the show is May 18, both in the school’s gym. There will be around 100 students competing in the event. In addition to the contestants, there are approximately 25 students from previous years that have already graduated that returned to volunteer for the event.
"After the show, when all the students are done, the look on their face is my favorite part," said Flor Juarez-Diaz, the staff assistant in Continuing Education.
The show enables participants to open their eyes to different jobs they can do — it's not just about manicures and hair styles, but they can do something different they've never expected to within the field.
The LCC Hair Show is a runway style event with cultural performances. There will be performances both in English and in Spanish. This exciting event will feature Latino culture and showcase the hard work and imagination of the students at LCC.
