Ayden-Grifton falls to Greenville Rose in five-set match

GREENVILLE — Ayden-Grifton was looking for a sweep of Greenville Rose, but couldn’t make it happen in a 26-24, 21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13 win for the Rampants.

Emily Dykes had 29 kills for the Chargers (13-5), who are 1-5 against NCHSAA 3A and 4A teams this season, the lone win coming against the Rampants (12-7) on Sept. 30. Aale’Yah Garris had 11 kills and Alexia Bryant provided eight for Ayden-Grifton, while Holly Cannon added 48 assists.

South Lenoir boys, Washington girls win

DEEP RUN — The Blue Devils defeated Washington and Greene Central in the boys’ race while the Pam Pack girls’ upended South Lenoir by one point in Wednesday’s races.

In the boys’ race, South Lenoir had 11 of the top 12 finishers, led by Ian Ireland’s 17:22, which was 1:13 ahead of teammate Ethan Garris’ time. In the girls’ race, South Lenoir’s Marina Castillo had the best time at 20:43, 2:49 ahead of Washington’s Stella Frisbie.
