La Grange concert series continues with Donald Thompson Band

La Grange concert series continues with Donald Thompson Band

The annual La Grange Spot Jam concert series cranks back up Thursday with regional classic rock/blues/r&b institution The Donald Thompson Band.

"The La Grange Spot Jam is a free summer concert series that began in September of 2016," said Tyrone Morgan of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce. "The main focus of the Spot Jam is to provide La Grange citizens and those of neighboring communities an opportunity to enjoy a free concert while also associating with people of all ages, races, and backgrounds."

The concerts take place at the La Grange Community Park on Railroad Street. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets, while limited bleacher seating will be provided. Hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, beer and water will be available for purchase at concession stands.

All shows run from 7 to 10 p.m.

"We'll have 2018 Spot Jam T-shirts for sale at the show," said Nathan Rhue of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce. "The adjacent water park will be open during the concert."

Rhue said proceeds from the show go towards producing additional Spot Jam concerts, the La Grange Christmas parade and the annual Garden Spot Festival.

The Donald Thompson Band delivers rousing versions of blues, vintage R&B and classic rock, delighting audiences of all ages wherever they go. Along with the choice sounds, the band's colorful stage attire alludes to the classic stage revues of the 1950s/60s. During a Donald Thompson Band performance, you'll hear classic songs from B.B. King, CCR, Muddy Waters and Stevie Ray Vaughn - just to name a few.

The band - which were part of the Smithsonian's American Roots Music Tour - have a devoted following throughout the southeastern United States.
