Arendell Parrott fell victim to a major shift of momentum in a 67-55 loss to Carolina Day Saturday.

The Wildcats (2-5) trailed by eight early in the third quarter before outscoring the Patriots 37-15 the rest of the way.

"We have players with talent, but we've been inconsistent with our habits," Carolina Day coach Glen Taylor said. "We were more consistent defensively today, stayed in front of whoever we were guarding, closed out on the shooters and that led to better offense."

APA (3-8) started strong as back-to-back 3-pointers by Nick Harrison helped the team get to an 8-2 start, but Carolina Day kept it close, taking a 25-24 advantage late in the second on a Cash Watkins basket. A Caleb Jones free throw and Mateus Prado 3-pointer put the Patriots back on top and the team went into halftime up 32-28. APA continued its strong play to start the third and went up 38-30 after a Trey McLawhorn basket with 5:54 left in the frame.

From there, Carolina Day's D'Angelo Elliot exploded, hitting consecutive 3-pointers to trigger a 14-3 rub to put the Wildcats on top for good. Elliot scored 22 of his game-high 31 in the second half, including another long range shot with 6:56 left to start a 13-2 spurt after APA cut the deficit to 49-48. The Patriots wouldn't get within nine from there.

Arendell Parrott coach Dory Hines said the consistency wasn’t there late.

“We didn’t do everything we were supposed to — boxing out, playing help defense, drawing charges,” Hines said. “There are so many little things we have refused to do, but losing should get sickening this way. As soon as we get into playing the right way, we should be alright.”
