Obituary - Ervin Thomas Rogerson, Sr.
Ervin was born in Martin County on November 17, 1941. He was the son of the late William Samuel Rogerson, Jr. and Addie Lee Rogerson Van Nortwick of Williamston, North Carolina. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William Wade Rogerson of Clinton, North Carolina, Roy McAllister Rogerson and Raeford Darrell Rogerson, both of Williamston, North Carolina.
Upon graduation from high school, Ervin enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 17, 1960. Ervin served in the Communications Field as a cryptologist at Langley Air Force Base and was honorably discharged on March 16, 1964. On August 20, 1961, Ervin married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor Harris. They were happily married for over 47 years, and together as a loving couple for over 51 years. His wife Eleanor passed away on March 10, 2009 due to cancer.
Ervin was a dedicated worker who served many years in various service management jobs in Kinston until he retired in 1998. He was an office manager for Western Union; an office manager for Dainty Made Bakery; the Parts manager for Harvey’s John Deere Company for over 15 years, and a Service Manager for both Sale BMW and Massey Motor Company. Ervin’s philosophy in life was to always abide by the “Golden Rule”: do unto others, as you would have them do unto you, and he lived it. Ervin loved the Lord. He loved his family, and he loved his fellow man.
Ervin was a longtime member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Kinston, and for many years was a member of Northwest Christian Church. While attending First Pentecostal Holiness Church, Ervin served as a member of the usher/greeter team and the Church’s hospitality team. Before his passing, Ervin was honored on December 2, 2018 before the congregation by the Church’s Usher/Greeter Ministry for his many years of faithfulness and dedicated service.
Ervin is survived by his two sons, Ervin Thomas Rogerson, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina and Christopher Alan Rogerson of Kinston, North Carolina. His boys were his pride and joy.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Kinston located at 711 Phillips Road on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Entombment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 7, 2019 at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials or donations be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center located at 107 Handley Park, Goldsboro, North Carolina 27534.
