Obituary - James “Buck” Foyles, Sr.
James “Buck” Foyles, Sr., 78, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023. A Celebration of his Life will be conducted Monday at 6:30 pm in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5 to 6:30 pm.
Sheriff Jackie Rogers announces arrest of La Grange murder suspect
According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, a Wallace man has been arrested for the murder of Anthony Harris of La Grange. “I would like to acknowledge the hard work by our investigators in this case,” Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said. “They worked around the clock to make sure we caught the person who committed this crime. The residents of Lenoir County are lucky to have such dedicated public servants protecting them.”
Obituary - George Saxon Parrott
Morehead City – George Saxon Parrott, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2 pm at Westview Cemetery with Kermit Braswell officiating.

The property’s street address is 500 Marcella Drive Kinston, NC 28501. The offer to purchase is in the amount of One Hundred Fifty-One Thousand Dollars ($151,000.00). Notice is hereby given that prior to September 28, 2023, at 4:00 PM, any person may raise the bid by not less than ten percent (10%) of the first one thousand dollars ($1000) and five percent (5%) of the remainder ($150,000). Therefore, the lowest acceptable upset bid is One Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($158,600.00).
State officials encourage North Carolinians to beprepared for Tropical Storm weather
Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Emergency Management are encouraging North Carolinians across eastern and central portions of the state to be prepared for tropical weather over the next couple of days.
Tropical Storm force winds Friday through Saturday
A low-pressure system off the Southeast coast will bring significant impacts to Eastern North Carolina from Friday through Saturday. The storm's expansive wind field extends beyond its center, increasing the risk of scattered tree damage and power outages. Coastal areas may experience storm surge and inundation of up to 2-5 feet, while widespread rainfall of 3-5 inches (with localized totals up to 7 inches) poses a flash flooding threat, especially in urban and poorly drained areas. Additionally, the storm carries a risk of several tornadoes, with potential damage and disruptions to power and communications. Residents are urged to exercise caution, avoid flooded roads, and stay informed about this evolving weather system.
Community engagement key as Kinston explores Social District implementation

850 cyclists to embark on epic journey from mountains to coast with stop in Kinston
Cycle NC is scheduled to arrive in Kinston, bringing along 850 cyclists on Friday, October 6th. Their visit aims to explore the local culinary scene, featuring sweet potato fries and Kings BBQ pork skins, while they camp in Pearson Park. In addition to exploring downtown, cyclists can enjoy the Kinston nightlife with live music.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for a good portion of our area, along with Storm Surge Watches along the inland rivers and sounds, and our entire coast.
Warrants obtained in Woodington MS incident
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office has obtained warrants for the arrest of Kegan Van Damke of Lewisville in regards to the break-in reported at Woodington Middle School. Damke has not yet been taken into custody. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Damke is asked to contact the Lenoir County Crime Stoppers tip line at 252-523-4444 or to contact their local authorities.
Stabbing incident on E Bright St. leads to arrests
KPD officers responded to a stabbing that occurred on the 900 block of E Bright St. The investigation led to the arrest of Demonsha Carr and Branden Pridgen. Both offenders were charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder and placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond.
License checkpoint leads to arrest with concealed firearm discovery
Officers encountered Jermaine Suggs during a license checkpoint. During the encounter officers observed narcotic violations. During the narcotic investigations officers discovered a concealed firearm. Suggs was arrested for Carry Concealed Gun, Felony Possession of Schedule VI, and Possession With Intent Sell Deliver Schedule VI.
