Hanks temporarily relinquishes control of editorial content for Neuse News

Neuse News press release

Monday, Sept. 10, 2018

Due to Hurricane Florence and his responsibilities to Lenoir County Emergency Services as its public information officer, Neuse News Editor Bryan Hanks has temporarily relinquished control of editorial content for the website, Neuse News Publisher B.J. Murphy announced this afternoon.

"Serving our community is the No. 1 mission for Bryan Hanks and our Neuse News team,” Murphy said. “Bryan served in this role during Hurricane Matthew and will be an incredible asset to Lenoir County Emergency Services during Hurricane Florence.”

At the request of Lenoir County Emergency Services Director Roger Dail, Hanks first served as the PIO for Lenoir County during the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew in late 2016. In preparation for Hurricane Florence, Dail again asked Hanks to serve as the PIO this week.

"It was my honor to serve Lenoir County as the PIO in 2016 and it's again my honor to do it again during and after Hurricane Florence this year," Hanks said. "I am extremely proud of serving in the position that B.J. created for me at Neuse News but we both recognize it would be unethical at this time for me to make editorial decisions for the site while providing public information for the residents of Lenoir County.

"I look forward to rejoining B.J. and our great staff at the Neuse News when my duties to Lenoir County as its PIO are complete."
