New Boutique adds vibrancy to Deep Run

DEEP RUN — A new shopping destination has emerged in Deep Run offering a unique blend of styles and items from various vendors. The Collective Boutique, located adjacent to The Farmhouse, opened its doors on March 29th, introducing a diverse range of clothing, accessories, gifts, and more to the local community.

40-acre brush fire in southern Lenoir County

According to Lenoir County Emergency Services, Lenoir County Fire Departments and the North Carolina Forestry Service are actively working to contain a large brush fire just outside of Deep Run, NC. Lenoir County 911 received a call at approximately 1:39 this afternoon reporting a field fire in the area of Tulls Mill Rd and Old Pink Hill Rd. Firefighters arrived on scene to find approximately 25-30 acres on fire and progressing toward the wood line. Due to the winds, the fire has now grown to approximately 40 acres in size.

The NC Forestry service has two plows on scene and is monitoring conditions from above with spotter planes. No homes or structures are currently in danger however, residents in areas North and West of the incident will notice hazy smoke conditions until the fire is brought under control.

Fire District Receives New Rating After Inspection

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey announced today that the following Fire Districts completed their routine inspection and received the listed rating, on listed effective dates. The inspection, conducted by officials with the Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), is required on a regular basis as part of the North Carolina Response Rating System

South Lenoir's Rachel Noble wins National FFA Creed Speaking Competition

On Wednesday, the National FFA (Future Farmers of America) Creed Competition took place in Indianapolis, Indiana. The competition is based on writings of E.M. Tiffany (who wrote the FFA creed). The competition judges the participants on learning expectations, poised confidence, memorizing the creed, public speaking, and their answers to questions about agriculture asked by judges. The winners were announced and awarded on Thursday at the Indianapolis Colts Football Stadium and Rachel Noble from South Lenoir won first place out of 85,000 participants from around the country.
