Motor vehicle collision involving an 18- wheeler on the Hwy 70 Neuse River bridge

Kinston, NC – Just before 0830 this morning, Lenoir County 911 received a call reporting an MVC involving an 18- wheeler on the Hwy 70 Neuse River bridge. Fire department personnel arrived on scene to find an 18-wheel fuel tanker resting on the top rail of the river bridge.

The tanker is reported to be empty, and no fluids have been released from  the truck’s fuel tanks. The driver of the truck was not injured. NC DOT bridge inspectors are also on scene to assess for  any structural damage to the bridge. One lane of Westbound Hwy 70 is closed at the river bridge.

Traffic is urged to use  caution when passing through the area. North Lenoir Fire & Rescue, Lenoir County Emergency Management, Lenoir  County Sheriff’s office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol are currently on scene.
