UPDATED 2/22/19: House fire kills two in La Grange Thursday morning

Update from Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and Lenoir County Emergency Services have concluded the fire investigation that began yesterday morning on Maple Grove Drive. Fire investigators have determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature. No foul play or criminal acts were associated with the fire.

Roderick Quenton Jones, 54, and Rosie Patterson Hill, 59 both of whom lived at the burned residence were killed in the fire. The Sheriff's Office is still waiting reports from the medical examiner for the exact cause of death. Investigators have notified the immediate family of the victims killed in the fire.

Sheriff Ronnie Ingram stated "incidents like this are never easy for a family. Our prayers and condolences go out to the family of both Mr. Jones and Ms. Hill for their loss."

LA GRANGE -- A structural fire claimed the lives of two early Thursday morning.

Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Maj. Ryan Dawson said Emergency Services responded to a call around 5 a.m. about the fire, which took place at Maple Grove Dr.

“The La Grange Fire Department and North Lenoir Fire Department responded to the call,” Dawson said. “When they got there, smoke and fire was visible from the home. (The original dispatch advised there were people inside the structure) and during the suppression, it was discovered the two people inside were not able to get out.

“The Lenoir County EM and State Bureau of Investigation are working to find the cause of the fire.”
